This program is for people who have experienced a cardiac event, cardiac surgery, heart failure, a heart disease related episode or for those people who have risk factors and wish to prevent heart disease.  We follow the evidence based Cardiac Rehabilitation guidelines as set by the Heart Foundation. The evidence has proven that people who attend Cardiac Rehabilitation after a cardiac event will decrease the risk of having a life threatening event in the future by 30 per cent.

Program Details

This is an eight week rolling program which means clients can start immediately without having to wait for a specific start date.

Clients will first be asked to undertake an assessment to establish their personal health goals and determine if they wish to participate.

Clients will participate in an individualised and supervised exercise session run by a Cardiac Nurse and a Physiotherapist. This is followed by education sessions each week in a relaxed atmosphere facilitated by a health professional.  Clients are welcome to bring friends and family along to the education sessions.

Education topics include:

  • Medication management
  • Symptom management
  • Healthy eating
  • Physical activity
  • Stress management and relaxation.

A hospital, Cardiologist, Cardio-Thoracic Surgeon or a GP referral is required to access this program.

Availability / Times

The Cardiac Rehabilitation Program takes place on the following days:

Tuesdays from 10am-12pm (Exercise session – Kyneton Sports and Aquatic)

Fridays 3pm-4pm (Education session – St. Luke’s Kyneton)

How to make a referral

A GP or hospital referral will contain a request for service, past and current medical history and medication, any contraindications for treatment and alerts, and any relevant radiology and pathology reports.
