Early Childhood Intervention Services (ECIS)

Through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), Cobaw provides support at the earliest possible stage to children with a developmental delay or disability and their families.

Our coordinated Early Childhood Intervention Service (ECIS) is comprised of services delivered by highly skilled practitioners across a range of disciplines including the following:

  • Speech Pathology
  • Physiotherapy
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Early Educators
  • Special Educators
  • Social Worker/Mental Health Practitioners who work collaboratively to ensure your child receives the most comprehensive range of supports they need to achieve all their developmental goals.

We utilise a Transdisciplinary ECIS model (delivered by the ECIS team) with one Key Worker (from the team) who works closely with the child and parents/carers in their everyday environments and routines to achieve the most effective outcomes for children and families.

The Key Worker helps parents/carers to set achievable goals for their child. They also help to develop strategies to teach the child new skills across all of their developmental areas such as:

  • Communication, behaviour and self-help skills i.e. eating, dressing, toilet training and sleeping
  • Developing motor skills such as balance and coordination or smaller skills such as drawing, cutting, and doing zips and buttons
  • Learning skills such as pre-reading and writing, problem solving and social and emotional issues such as positive behaviour, emotional self-regulation, persistence and waiting.

New skills are taught and practiced in the child and family’s natural environments such as home and preschool. This ensures children learn and practice every day – not just once a week at a clinic.

The Key Worker helps pull all the goals and strategies together into one easy plan that families and early years staff can follow across the week. This is because activities will be part of an every day routine – not something else you have to do! Feedback has indicated that this adds to families feeling more supported and less stressed.

We have over 20 years’ experience in providing quality Early Childhood Intervention Services, with national accreditation which meets all required standards to deliver evidence-based and outcomes focused practices.
