Smiles 4 Miles
Smiles 4 Miles aims to improve the oral health of preschool aged children in Victoria. The program is an initiative of Dental Health Services Victoria (DHSV) working in partnership with community health services, local councils and primary care partnerships to improve the oral health of the youngest children in the community.
Smiles 4 Miles is based on the World Health Organisation’s Health Promoting Schools Framework and is delivered predominantly in kindergartens.
In 2013, Smiles 4 Miles reached over 27,000 children and their families across 480 early childhood education and care services around Victoria.
This year the program will be introduced into all kindergartens facilitated by the Macedon Ranges Shire Council. Healthy eating and drinking policies will be developed and parents, teachers and students will be provided with information and encouraged to participate in activities throughout the year to reinforce the three key messages of eat well, drink well and clean well.
